Altstadt-Wander-Treffen
September 17-19, 2004
Marienburg Niederalfingen in Huettlingen, Germany
A Left Lane and Abteilung Deutschland/Schweiz event
For
the second year in a row, the 2004
Altstadt-Wander-Treffen was held in the Marienburg in Huettlingen. We had
a lot of "newcomers" this year, word had spread how wonderful the
castle was last year. Our "doctors" from k-town made a pretty
spectacular appearance quite late and almost frozen stiff on Friday night.
Thank goodness for GPS or they probably wouldn't have arrived until the next
day!
We
had special guests this year Verna and Jim who are on their Norsea Odyssey , traveling
and living on their motorcycles throughout the world. They had wonderful
adventures to share and incredible motorcycle experience and knowledge.
You can check out their homepage at norseaodyssey.com.
The
Saturday tour took us to an Iron mine in Aalen. We all donned Batman capes
and hardhats for the tour. It was interesting to follow the technical
progression throughout the lifetime of the mine. The air inside is very
clean and has constant humidity and temperature levels and so is used as a lung
disease treatment center. And, it wasn't hard to imagine how much fun they
would have in six weeks at the Halloween party that they put on each year.
Lunchtime
found us in the Kloster in Neresheim. We had a spectacular lunch and a few
of us took the time to view the inside of the church afterwards.
The evening bonfire in the moat of the castle burned long into the night. We managed to make some pretty good apple juice, beer and wine disappear while enjoying each others travel tales and other woes.
On
Sunday Jim and Nora honored us by following us home and then
applying
a Left Lane sticker to one of their bikes to travel around the world with
them. It was another great weekend and we thank all of you that made it so
special!
