31st Annual Schmidtburg "Last Editon Rally"

Pfalzfeld, Germany

July 16-18, 2004

A Left Lane and Abteilung Deutschland/Schweiz event

This was Christine's second year with a left lane rally.  We had the bar-b-que and fried potatoes back.  Helmut and Ian did the honors of cooking again this year.  Just about when the food was ready, it began to pour and everyone had to make a run for it, then the power went out!.  Fortunately, it blew thru quickly and the evening was saved (along with the food).  The French were unable to attend this year because their school summer vacation was already finished, so instead of the French cleaning up at the raffle as usual, the Swiss did it this year, we locals just don't seem to have much luck!  Joerg from Switzerland is one of the longest attending members from Switzerland and he won the annual engraved beer mug this year.

Our tour in the afternoon took us down to the Mosel, up to an outlook, complete with tower (we women sat below while the men went up) and then back down to the river again.  We stopped at the "Blockhaus" for lunch outside under umbrellas.  We skirted the rain for most of the day, but returned to a wet and soggy campground.  For those of us staying in the rail cars, it wasn't so tragic, but a couple of the tents were pretty wet!

Sunday dawned bright and clear and made for a wonderful ride home.  A couple of us met up at the Johanneskreuz midday and said our final farewells for the weekend.
